Mercy Me

Have you ever thought you would start a small project and by the time you finished it, it was anything but small. Today was one of those days. I was going to change our closet over to winter clothes a couple of weeks ago and I got sick and didn't feel like it. Well, this morning it was 34 chilly degrees outside........so I thought, hey why not stay in, drink hot tea and change out your closet. Well that's what I did. Sorta. The first thing I did was move Alvins' summer things out and put them on the love seat in our bedroom. The next step was to move my summer things out and lay them on the bed. I might add it is 8:52 p.m. and my summer clothes are still in the closet because I got side tracked by going to Caseys' closet. At which time I started pulling my old SWA uniforms (that have been discontinued) out of the closet, I threw those on Caseys' bed along with some old prom dresses and a few other articles of clothing. I should have stopped at this point and realized I was a little off track. Oh but no, next thing I know I am in Cortneys' closet (hang with me here) at which point I am saying to myself, "where did all this stuff come from and how is it that it is still at our house". For example.........

This is a box of rose petals, yes dried rose petals. People Cortney has been gone from this house since 1994! (yes Cort I realize they are from Ryan and they are special that's why when I come to visit you this week they will be visiting you as well. Ok, moving right along.

Why can I not part with this T-shirt. I guess because Cortney was soooooo crazy about these guys and I'll never forget taking my girls to their concert in St. Louis! (boy that was a crazy day huh) Guess what guys you to will have a new residence by the end of the week. Next thing up........

OH MY GOSH!!!! Look at all these dyeable shoes. Now really who in their right mind would ever wear these again. They will not be going to Cortneys' house to live because they are now residing in the trash can. Oh, except for Corts' bridal shoes, I just couldn't bear to toss them, so they too are going along for the ride. And while we are on the subject of shoes, Cortney please tell me those are not a pair of your old cheerleading asics........oh I can't wait to open this......Oh, Cortney no!!!!! Sorry folks this box has a story of it's own and will have to wait!! I know, I know the suspense is killing you isn't it. Oh and I know it's killing Cortney, cause she can't stand suspense. HA!!!

Looky here what I found next, a little brownie dress. Don't worry, it's not moving residence either, I packed it into a plastic container along with this sweet sailor dress of Caseys' that I couldn't bear to part with.

Oh Casey, you looked so adorable in this little red dress with your red hair and I always loved sailor collars, especially this one with your name on it.

And all the cheerleading uniforms, couldn't bear to toss those either, so they too now reside in the plastic container with a few more nostalgic things from days go by.

Whoa! Wait a minute I got way off the subject. Come back to me Becky girl, come on back. Ok, I'm back. After getting into Cortneys' closet and organizing and reorganizing I ended up with 4 trash bags full of stuff for the goodwill. I wish you guys could of seen the mess I had at this point. Now this morning our house was pretty straight. OH, OH, not anymore. At this point it was time for Alvin to come home for lunch. My head starts spinning, I'm feeling a little dizzy, the next thing I know I'm yelling. HELP ME OPRAH WINFREY! HELP ME TOM CRUISE!! WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!!! And then he appears MY HERO!!! Yep Alvin waltzed into the room and after lunch he helped me get everything picked up, his clothes are back in the closet, my old work uniforms are out on the back porch waiting for the logo's to be cut out so I can destroy them and I WILL get the rest of the closets cleaned out tomorrow......after all tomorrow is another day!!!!

How funny! I had one of those trips down memory lane recently with old photos. It's fun, but can definitely get you sidetracked. Ha!

Oh, this sounds soooo like what I do all the time!! It is so hard to stay focused when there's all kinds of jobs to do...I am forever running across an old photo album and, BAM...2 hours later I am still in the floor, looking at pictures....

It's funny how we get so side tracked when going through old things. I have a ton that I can't part with. Especially clothes that my kids used to wear.

You are so funny! I can totally relate to this post. When we moved about 3 years ago (from the house we had lived in for 20 yrs), I experienced some of these same things! BTW...Faith had that same sailor dress in Navy blue!

How do WE end up with ALL of this stuff at OUR houses, though!

BTW...I don't fly very much anymore, but I used to fly Southwest a lot when my husband lived/worked in West Palm. Maybe we can hook up in Raleigh for a Cheerwine some time, though!

So cute that you got side tracked by all the sweet memories. I can see why that would slow things down. There are just some things that no matter what...you just can't throw out! Hope you have a great 'closet cleaning' day today! And thanks so much for the b-day wishes and sweet comments. Just knowing I can make someone laugh is the best gift of all!

I know I will be the exact same way...holding on to all kinds of stuff. My mom has all our prom dresses and Barbies, etc. I need to let her read this so maybe she will be motivated to get rid of some stuff. I'm proud of you. Now, what's in that box????

Hi Becky, Cute Post! I've been going through closets, too, since we are remodeling, and "my mess" is still out! LOL! I did manage to get several bags and boxes loaded in my SUV, for the thrift store....BABY STEPS! LOL! ...and my hero has not rescued me yet! LOL! Oh, and New Kids on the Block is making a comeback, so hang on to your T'shirt! LOL! ~Hope you have a Happy Halloween! Rhonda :)
