Cards and Letters for "Fridays Show and Tell"

Kelli over at There Is No Place Like Home sponsors Show and Tell each Friday and I'm excited to be participating for the first time this week. I wanted to show some letters and cards from my Grandma and Poppa that are very near and dear to my heart.

As you can see these letters were written in the 70's when stamps were a lot cheaper.

The letter on the left is from my grandma dated February 5, 1975 and the one on the right is from my poppa, written on January 26th, 1973 (poppa wrote this letter right after Alvin and I married. I wanted to read an excerpt from my poppas letter that has always stuck with me. It reads:

"When I take a short look in the past it only seems like a very short time since you were just a little girl and we have a little snapshot of you where you were about 3 or 4 years old and you had my old big work shoes on and then I wonder where time has went to. But people must realize that time must go on and on and on. But we must realize too that we must make the very best of what we have left of course. We never can know excactly what is best for us as we never know for sure that there will even be a tomorrow and we must take a solemn look at ourselves and ask this question. Have I done everything today I should have done or not and if I have not, promise ourselves tomorrow I will try".

Aren't these vintage Christmas cards beautiful. They are from my grandparents as well.

Thank you for visiting my show and tell. And thank you for letting me share a small bit of my poppa's wisdom.

P.S. I just realized my link is not working for Kelli so just go to kellishouse.blogspot.com to read Kelli's wonderful blog.

Oh, you know what a sentimentalist I am and this is just the sweetest post ever! What wonderful treasures these are.

The words from your poppa's letter really spoke to my heart. Those are great words for ALL of us to live our lives by.

Thank you so much for sharing such precious memories!

I love the older cards with the beautiful illustrations and to have such profound words from Papa. You should think about making a shadow box with the letter, old photo etc.

Sis, Popa was such a smart man wasn't he? I showed David this post and he thought both grandma and popa had fantastic hand writing. Obviously, that gift didn't get transferred to me! haha! I hope this post didn't make you sad. Hopefully, it just warmed your heart right up!

Love ya lots!

That's the kind of stuff I love. I wish I had all the letters that were exchanged between my grandma and me when I was just a girl.

That is the most precious letter, how wonderful that you've kept it all these years. I love old vintage Christmas cards, have you ever thought about framing them for christmas time? You blog looks so cute all decked out for the holidays.

Hi Becky!! I just had to visit your blog since we share the same name!! You seem like such a fun person!! We were just up your way in Texarkana for Thanksgiving!! The letter is precious, and so are the vintage Christmas cards. There's an idea in my show and tell of what you might do with them! It's such a blessing to have those types of things to ignite our memories and help us feel close to loved ones we miss so much! It's also awesome that you got over your fear of flying!! I was claustrophobic until I went on two rides at Wet & Wild in Orlando that say not to go on them if you're claustrophobic!! It feels great to be free from the fear, doesn't it??
Blessings to you, Becky. I'll be visiting again!! I'm also with my first love and we celebrate 30 years in 2009!! YAY for us all!!

Oh girl.....what a beautiful post...loved that part from your poppa..I have letters from Bill when he was overseas in the 70's & from my dad when we lived out of state in the 70's and he would write and tell me he had been to Mama Bush's and plowed the garden for her or he had been hunting with Uncle James.....I treasure them...I love looking back on written things like that...I guess that is why I have always kept notes thru the years! lol Loved this girl...hope you are having a great weekend!

Hey Becky...sorry about the visuals of my last post lol. To do the little heart...all you have to do is hold down the "alt" key and hit the 3 on the keypad...(It has to be the keypad 3 not the 3 above the letter keys) if you have a laptop it won't work. If you have trouble give me a holler ♥
