Flight Attendant Friday

I thought this week I would share a few Fun Facts about Southwest Airlines:

Southwest received 199,200 resumes and hired 3,350 new Employees in 2008.
In 2008 Southwest served 55.2 million cans of soda, juices, and water; 12.4 million alcoholic beverages; 9.8 million bags of pretzels; 90.8 million bags of peanuts; 9 million snack boxes; and 32 million other snacks.
Southwest consumed approximately 1.5 billion gallons of jet fuel in 2008.
In 2008, Southwest moved 225 million pounds of cargo.
The shortest daily Southwest flight is between Ft. Myers (RSW) and Orlando (MCO) (133 miles). The longest daily Southwest flight is between Baltimore (BWI) and San Diego (SAN) (2,295 miles).
Southwest has 1,328 married couples. In other words, 2,656 Southwest Employees have spouses who also work for the Company.

And what fun would fun facts be without showing you a picture of one of the most fun places in America. Disney World.

I took this picture shortly after take off a few weeks ago. If you double-click on the picture and are familiar with Disney World you will be able to spot Space Mountain, the Contemporary Hotel and if you know where to look you can see Cinderella's castle. Disney World looks sooooo small from the air. It's hard to believe there were probably thousands of visitors in attendance that day.

I'm thinking it's time for me to answer some of those burning questions you might have about my job. So starting this week I'm going to take any of your burning questions and in a couple of weeks I will post a blog and have a question and answer session. So come on girls I know you have questions that you are dying to ask me......so go ahead, ask away. Feel free to ask as many as you want!

Yesterday's Memories - Grandma's Pot

When I was a little girl (once upon a time). I distinctly remember my grandma working in her yard. I suppose I got my LUV for being outdoors and working in the yard from her.

One of the flowers you could always expect to see at grandma's in the spring and summer was Rose Moss. She always had it in some sort of pot. I always plant Rose Moss every spring as well. This year I decided to put my moss in one of grandma's pots. As you can see it's not a fancy pot, but it belonged to my grandma and I hold it near and dear to my heart.

I recommend Rose Moss to anyone wanting to add color. The flowers have such vibrant colors; red, pink, yellow, white and my favorite, melon orange. The juicy colors glow atop green succulent leaves and when planted in a pot, cascade over the sides.

The Rose Moss also makes a wonderful ground cover.
I was reading the other day that the newer type of Rose Moss stays open longer during the day. The older type opens at noon and closes at dusk.

I LUV the memories of grandma's moss and being able to plant my moss in her pot makes it even more special.
Thanks for letting me share Yesterday's Memories with you. Do you have a special memory you would like to share?

Glimpses of things going on in the garden

Hi y'all. Hope everyone had a FABULOUS weekend! I know we did......but boy talk about exhausted. Everyone is probably like us, tryin to get things ready for spring and summer! Sometimes I wonder if it's all worth it. Then I realize, yes it is!!!

Here are just a few pictures from the past week. I'm not ready to show you any of the finished projects (mainly because non of them are finished just yet). LOL However, wanted to show you a little of our progress. Okie dokie......let's get started.
Looky here, I'm gonna try my hand at gardening in pots this year. Oh won't my sister Susie over at digginginthedirt-susie.blogspot.com be so proud of me. My sissy is a wonderful gardener both flower and vegetable gardening. Susie has a degree in Horticulture. Well as for me I have a RHD.......that would be root hog or die! LOL LOL Anywhooie we'll see how this pot gardening goes. I'm sure all of you in blogland will get a REAL kick out of it.

Here's froggy, wonder what he's laughing about.

Yep, and there are projects going on. We'll see the end results in a later post as well.

LUV my flag Cortney got me for Christmas and I can't wait to show you what it's braggin about.

Sure hope everyone went to Lowe's for their ferns this year. If you haven't, don't wait another second they were only $7.88 each! That's the real deal.

And last but not least, I can't wait to tell you about my moss and the pot they are in. So stay tuned girls for the latest in gardening by Becjane. For now, I wasted most of the morning, gotta get busy.

Oh, one more thing. Here goes one of my crazy questions. Would anyone be interested in doing a video blogpost? Ya know one where we're all talkin with our crazy little accents. I just thought it would be fun for us to do maybe a short snippet of us talking. We've all been visiting each other on blogland for awhile now and I just thought it would be fun to have a voice to put to a face kinda deal. My new digital camera has a gadget where you can video and yesterday while at Cortney's I was videoing the boys and while watching them last night I thought of this idea. Now trust me I am from the south and I sound horrible on the video, but I am willing if anyone else is. Anyone up for it.......please let me know. Come on, now don't be shy.

Now, I've gotta get up and finish these projects I've started. Talk to you girlies later. Have wonderful week and may God bless you all!

Flight Attendant Friday

Not much going on this week. I've been home since last Friday night. Was suppose to work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, but worked in the yard too much on Monday and Tuesday and got pollenated (is that a word, oh well you know what I mean). Anywho ended up with a sore throat and runny nose so I called in sick.

Which brings me to this weeks post. My schedule. As of right now I have nothing on my board until May 30th, so unless I pick up some trips between now and then, you guessed it, I'm off!!! Are you wondering how that happens......well wonder no more, I'll try and explain.
Each month we bid for our schedule for the following month. We are awarded our schedule according to our seniority. Since I'm the low man on the totem pole I am usually awarded Friday, Saturday and Sunday (I have about 200 people under me in Dallas). Well, I'm not really a fan of working weekends so when our schedule comes out on the 1oth I usually drop all my trips in Trip/Trade/Giveaway. Our schedules usually consist of four - three-day trips a month. Work three days off four so on and so forth. On the 22nd of the month any flight attendant can pick up any trip you have put into TT/GA or you can message any flight attendant and trade trips with them. Then on the 23rd of the month at 10 p.m. CST we have what is called "Open Time", which means we can drop any trip left on our board and trade it for anyday of the month where there is a trip available (restrictions do apply, but that's another story).

At Southwest we have the freedom to work as much or as little as we choose. So for May I dropped all four of my three day trips in TT/GA and on April 22nd they were all picked up except for one which is on May 30th. My goal for next month is not to be off the entire month, but to work during the week. So each day I am home I will look at TT/GA or open time and try and pick something up that works to my advantage. We'll see how it goes!

Until next time........stay safe in your travels!

Flight Attendant Friday

Hey everyone......not much to report this week, plus I'm running a little late for Flight Attendant Friday.
. I worked a three day trip (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) with LA and Sacremento overnights. We were delayed getting into LA so I just met my crew for dinner and got to bed early. I was able to lay out by the pool in Sacramento for a couple of hours on Thursday.
Betcha didn't know that in Burbank California the airport doesn't have jet bridges so we load with airstairs. We board from the front and back of the airplane. Here's a picture I took standing on the front airstairs looking towards the back of the plane. I LUV our planes, I think they are soooooo cute!!!!

I took this shot standing on the back airstairs looking up at the tail.

My favorite picture I took this week was of Lake Tahoe, taken from my peep hole in the aft galley.

I LUV MY JOB!!!!

See I told you not much going on. Sometimes I need those kinda weeks! LOL

If you haven't left a comment about my giveaway go over right now and do so. The deadline is 8:00 CST. tonight. Check back tomorrow to see who won. Good Luck everyone.

I LUV MY BLOGGY FRIENDS!!!

Until next week.........stay safe in your travels!

Easter Fun

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. We certainly did. We drove to Little Rock yesterday morning and attended church with Cortney, Ryan and the boys. After church we went to their house for lunch. Cortney and Casey prepared the most fabulous meal for us. Heavenly ham, sweet potato casserole, green beans, broccoli cornbread and strawberry cake. After lunch we hid easter eggs (in the house, because of the rain) and the boys had fun looking for them. Here are a few pictures from yesterday.

Trying to get a shot of all three boys at the same time is never easy! I'm not sure where Ridge thinks he's going. LOL
Cade and Reid in their easter outfits. Light blue linen shirts and khaki linen shorts.

Flight Attendant Friday

Can I say, I think I've gone a little crazy lately! I mean hey, I usually work nine days a month ok!!! I've have worked five days in the past seven........WHOA!!! THAT'S BIG, REALLY BIG!!! I worked a three day Saturday, Sunday, Monday. Came home Monday night and at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday I was back on the dirty bird headed to Dallas to start a two day on Wednesday. Hey, I had to do it. It's hard to pass up VJA pay(time and a half) which my company offers every month on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I NEVER luck into VJA......well, I did this month and boy did I pay for it. Here's a quick run down!

First downfall......3:45 wakeup call! Ugh! But that's ok......VJA!!! However, the people in the next room to me in the hotel obviously didn't have a 3:45 wakeup call because I'm tellin ya, they partied it up all night. I called three different times on them and the manager kept sending security up to have them hold it down. Yeah right. That lasted about 2 seconds after security left. They continued to party and I continued to stay awake. Y'all I did not sleep one minute all night. But that's ok.......VJA! I finally got up, got dressed, went down stairs to catch the van over to the airport. When I get downstairs to check out of the hotel, the manager on duty says, "good morning, how are you". Can I say, WRONG QUESTION! To which I reply, "not too good". Then he realizes.....OOPS, WRONG QUESTION! He apoligizes and refunds my money. Ok, I'm gonna survive this, after all it just a two day! VJA!!

I get to the airport, go to the lounge check in for my trip and one of our Supervisors walks over to me and says, "hey Becky, I'm going with you girls this morning and I'll be doing a check ride on you". To which I am thinking, oh great! But it's a quick one hour flight to Houston, I can do this after all it's VJA!!! (We get check rides once a year by a supervisor, they ride along with us and make sure we basically know our job and can perform our duties correctly) By the way I did great!

We push back from Dallas at 6:15, it's still dark outside, I'm all buckled in my jumpseat and my supervisor is sitting on the back row. It's a normal take off, the cabin is nice and dark and I have my eyes closed. No big deal. After we reach 10,000 feet, I get up and start setting up for juice and coffee when my (A) flight attendant comes back and asks me if I noticed the seat belt signs blinking on take off and I reply "no, I had my eyes closed". She goes back up front and I continue to set up for service. After setting up, I step into the aft lavatory and as I'm doing my business the lav lights start blinking on and off......now that was freaky, I actually felt like I was under a strobe light and I needed to break out into a disco dance. As I step out of the lav, both of my fellow workers are standing there and I tell them the lav lights were blinking and my (A) says, yup, we're having problems and we are turning around and heading back to Dallas with a broken plane. Oh, ok, whatever. Long story short we land back into Dallas 47 minutes after leaving Dallas. We change planes and continue our day and after all that we end up in Lubbock 20 minutes early!!!

Yesterday morning we leave Lubbock and head back to Dallas and then on to Houston. My (C) flight attendant and I were standing in the back galley getting our second trays ready to take out into the cabin when we both experienced a strange sensation. It was like pressure really pushing our bodies downward. I could tell by the expression on her face she had expericenced it too! We are both like that was weird and she says, "ya know there are suppose to be some strong wind shears"........and the next thing I know clear air turbulence hits and I'm thrown on the floor and she is tossed across the cabin. As soon as I hit the floor I start scooting backwards into the cabin part of the plane where I hang on for dear life to the armrest on the last row of seats. Thank goodness one of our employees was sitting in that seat and she has both hands on my shoulders keeping me on the floor. It last about 8 - 10 minutes and after it was over I crawl to the jump seat and sit down with my (C), where she is sitting and wondering how she knicked her finger. We are both fine, I'm a little sore today, but hey its was for VJA!!!

I will have to say the best part of my trip was yesterday. Lori front row, right and her friends were celebrating her 50th birthday and they were headed to New York to have some birthday fun. We gave her a bottle of champagne and I sang "Happy Birthday" to her. They were going to the "Today's Show" and looky who I saw this morning on TV.........

Lori and the girls!

Please bear with me while I get on my soapbox for a minute. If you are flying.......please, please stay seated with your seatbelt fastened at all times, especially if the fasten seatbelt sign is on. No matter how turbulent it is, if you are seated you will be fine. If you are not seated you can be seriously injured or even killed. It's no laughing matter. Y'all I see people EVERYDAY get up and bring their children to the lavatory , when the seatbelt sign is on and the captain has asked US to be seated. We asked them to please return to their seats and we tell them over and over you could get hurt. It kills me when they say, "but little Bobby has to go to the bathroom, I don't want him to wet his pants". Well parents, I'd rather have little Bobby wet his pants, than to have to see a parent carry an injuried or even worse, a dead child off an airplane.
TURBULENCE CAN KILL!!!!
Until next week.......stay safe in your travels!
