Favorite Finds

Rhoda at Southern Hospitality (click on my sidebar under favorite blogs) is hosting a favorite finds blog party. It's really hard for me to pick one, so here are a few of my favorites.

I purchased this piece at an auction for $100. Quite the find wouldn't you say.
I have been thinking about painting it black, but I don't want to ruin it. Does anyone out there have any advice on painting it?

I got these nesting tables for free!! That's right! A friend of Alvin's was throwing them away. Imagine! So guess who brought them home to Becky. I had them restored and can't remember how much it cost, but not much I promise!

Our armoire is probably my favorite piece of antique furniture. It's solid pecan and I love the finish! I feel like I stole it paying only $225 for it at an antique furniture store. It was in perfect condition and I knew Alvin could gut it.

And here's what the inside looks like. My hubby was able to remove the orginal shelves and bars (it had been used as a closet) and now it is a funtional entertainment center.

I do love this little chest. I bought it several years ago at a flea market for $25.
It is solid oak. It always had a sad look. So last year I painted it black and added new knobs. Wha-la!

Now it's your turn to join in the party. Oh, and don't forget to visit Rhoda. She is amazing!

Beautiful finds! I love the look of wood. I haven't painted much because I love the wood so much. There is some ugly wood, but if it's lovely I feel no need to ruin it.

Hi, Becky, thanks for joining in the party! I love all your antique pieces. I don't think I'd paint that first chest, it's too pretty as is. But I'm with you on updating older things with black paint...it's great!

Oh, I LOVE your thrifty finds! That armoire really caught my eye as I've been on the hunt for one (to gut, too) and have shelves installed. I want to put it in my dining room for storage of my many cake plates, luncheon sets, etc.. I was born in Batesville, Ark., but have lived in the KC, MO area most of my life---I still have relatives in Mtn. View! It was nice to meet you via Rhoda's blog. Dana

Becky, you have some beautiful antique pieces. I love antiques... and have found a few at a great price, too. It seems like it's getting harder and harder to find really good deals these days, doesn't it?

I agree with Casey... I love the new pic of Bosco!

Thanks for the kind comments on my post! I loved your armoire so much, I had to show it to my husband! We are looking for a similar piece and went antiquing today!

You asked about the drapes in my dining room! I'm almost embarrassed to tell you! LOL! I try to make things very easy! The vertical panels are hung on just a small, cheap rod underneath the panels. The panel is on the 2" metal rods that you hang treatments with the wide hems on. (The rod is flat.) But it is velcro'ed to the rod. I have several panels that I made, and I can change them whenever I get bored with them. One side of the velcro is on the rod, (Sticky back velcro), and the other side of the velcro is on the curtain panel. The rods are adjustable on the side, as to how far you want them from the window, and I wrap the panel all the way around the panel. I use that stiff white "sizing ?" underneath the fabric panels to make them appear straight and rigid! Does that make sense? LOL!

Take care! ~Rhona :)

I love old furniture. It just seems to have more interesting looks than something very modern. I always like to think of who had it before me and what their life was like.

You have a great sense of style!
