Flight Attendant Friday

Not much going on this week. I've been home since last Friday night. Was suppose to work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, but worked in the yard too much on Monday and Tuesday and got pollenated (is that a word, oh well you know what I mean). Anywho ended up with a sore throat and runny nose so I called in sick.

Which brings me to this weeks post. My schedule. As of right now I have nothing on my board until May 30th, so unless I pick up some trips between now and then, you guessed it, I'm off!!! Are you wondering how that happens......well wonder no more, I'll try and explain.
Each month we bid for our schedule for the following month. We are awarded our schedule according to our seniority. Since I'm the low man on the totem pole I am usually awarded Friday, Saturday and Sunday (I have about 200 people under me in Dallas). Well, I'm not really a fan of working weekends so when our schedule comes out on the 1oth I usually drop all my trips in Trip/Trade/Giveaway. Our schedules usually consist of four - three-day trips a month. Work three days off four so on and so forth. On the 22nd of the month any flight attendant can pick up any trip you have put into TT/GA or you can message any flight attendant and trade trips with them. Then on the 23rd of the month at 10 p.m. CST we have what is called "Open Time", which means we can drop any trip left on our board and trade it for anyday of the month where there is a trip available (restrictions do apply, but that's another story).

At Southwest we have the freedom to work as much or as little as we choose. So for May I dropped all four of my three day trips in TT/GA and on April 22nd they were all picked up except for one which is on May 30th. My goal for next month is not to be off the entire month, but to work during the week. So each day I am home I will look at TT/GA or open time and try and pick something up that works to my advantage. We'll see how it goes!

Until next time........stay safe in your travels!

I love your new blog look! I have learned so much reading your blog. It is really neat that you can trade trips and pick up trips that work with your schedule.

That's funny, I just did a very similar post late last night....sounds like our airlines have a few things in common: )

I really lucked out for next month, I'll be "building" my own schedule from open time before it "opens" because of a mistake the computer made! Yahooooo!

Very cool that you have at least some flexibility...I wish I had that on my job. It sounds like Southwest really tries to keep it's employees happy!

What a fun website you have! Bo won one of my giveaways not too long ago and I just read about the great grilling prize she won from you! What a lucky lady she is!

My daughter and I love to travel and will be flying to Kansas for my mom's 75th birthday in a few weeks. I always thought being a flight attendant would be the greatest job to have, but being vertically challenged (SHORT!) I never pursued it.

Looking forward to keeping up with your travels!
